Clara Peeters was a trailblazer in her time as one of the few female Flemish artists who exclusively painted still lifes in the 17th century. In addition, she was among the first to incorporate self-portraiture into her works. Although information about her life remains limited, Peeters remains an enduring influence due to her impactful contributions to the art of still life.
